Liquid Cooling!!!!? Is liquid cooling possible without water? If not, does the system have to be connected to a water source? dze replied: "no its in a sealed loop ..and they sell special liquid for it but its mostly water im pretty sure .."
Jeff S replied: "Visit link. There are several manufacturers that have an air conditioning unit installed on the case.
There are internal and external liquid cooling too. <<< Needs to have a liquid source connection.
Visit links. Nice eh? Goodluck!" How much more effective would liquid cooling be then this fan? 2 questions 1. Will this fit onto a 780i Mobo 2. How much more effective is liquid cooling? IRONFIST-X2 replied: "Water cooling is far more efficient than air cooling for various reasons, here's a break down of what to expect when you install a water cooling kit:"
Jedi Master What are the advantages for using a liquid cooling system? Soon I will be building a computer and I've been looking at these liquid cooling systems. They are expensive! Is it worth it? What are the advantages and disadvantages. Would I be better off buying one or are the traditional fans better. Tell me what you think and what you personally would use.
Thanks! techno_rules_all replied: "Traditional fans have their place. But they have limitations in how much heat they can displace. If you are going to be running a high end system, say with a more expensive video card/motherboard... you will want to protect it all with a liquid cooling system. There is no use spending a large sum of money on a system, and having to replace parts because of overheating issues.
Liquid cooling systems can displace much more heat. Typical is about 10-20 degrees cooler.. a big difference."
kingajs2010 replied: "well i would suggest just getting regular fans, water cooling advantages are that its cooler, but the main purpose for use fo water cooling is for overclocking, if ur not ocing then its a waste. and plus i heard u have to change teh water out like after a certian period of time, i would suggest u getting fans, there cheaper and more effecient. if ur gona oc then get water cooling" Can I use water with a computer liquid cooling system? I am planning on getting a liquid cooling system for a PC im building ( you know, cools the processor, other stuff). I know any cooling system needs a special coolant for best results, but could I use water as a safe substitute?
Thanks in advance B U replied: "Depends on how much heat the system generates -- as long as your fluid is being cooled down sufficiently so as to not boil, then it really doesn't matter all that much. The downside to water is that if something goes on your cooling system and everything gets wet --- well, the end is obvious.
Make sure the equipment you buy is designed to be used with water, and there should be no issues."
phalian replied: "SOME TYPES OF CPU HEAT SINKS USE A LIQUID FOR COLLING. THE WATER IS THE BEST COOLING SOURCE BUT IF IT LEAKAGE AND SPREAD ON YOUR MOTHER / OHTER HARDWARE, IT WILL BE SCRAP YOUR COMPUTER. BEST OF LUCK" What is the best computer liquid cooling system out there? What are some disadvantages, except for leaks, that liquid cooling offers? johnkutz.domino replied: "well I have a koollance system and works very well. Most guys will tell ya that danger den or swift-tec cause of the pice and they performe very well it just depends on how much room you have inside the case and just what your looking to cool. I have 11 water blocks on mine and no fans except for the two on the rad. it also cost me about 1500 dollars to get it up and running case and water blocks but its all self contained and I dont need to drain it to move it."

What's the point of having liquid cooling system for computer? What's the point of having liquid cooling system for computer? tekno1er@sbcglobal.net replied: "it coolers much better than the fans or heatsink"
one special dude replied: "I've heard of a guy who fried his graphics card playing CoD:4, just because his fan wasn't sufficient to cool the computer/graphics card.
A liquid cooling system is what they use for supercomputers, because a fan just won't cut it (unless they put an air conditioner in the room, which I'm unsure as to why they don't do that instead).
Also, if you can use liquid to cool the wires enough, electricity flows with much less resistance as it's medium becomes colder (I think this is due to movement of copper atoms at high temperature putting too much resistance on wires, slowing the rate of electrons/coded information, and therefore slows the rate at which the computer can "compute")"

." What are some cheap good liquid-cooling systems? What are some good liquid-cooling systems? I need something that will really cool well, but I'm not going to go overboard with costs. Jag replied: "Liquid cooling kits alone are pretty expensive, $200-$400. They are all prone to have a common problem. Eventually even the best kits leak. Say good bye to the computer when that happens.
A newer method that I've taken an interest in but haven't tried yet is the oil filled PC. Basically you build your own case from whichever form of clear oil tight material you prefer and then build the computer without cooling fans at all, and fill it with clean mineral oil. You leave the drives outside the case. This can leak too, but you'll see the oil level go down through the clear case. Would get a bit messy as often as I upgrade video cards though.
Yet another route is the kit for oil filled system reviewed in this Tom's Hardware article.
You could also look at the Zalman LQ1000. It's an $859 case with built in liquid cooling. No CPU, no mobo, no RAM, no Vid cards. Just a case with liquid cooling."

Drinks: bag of ice and a cooler
"specialty liquids": Take your liquid and poor it into a homemade ice cream maker, seal off with lots of press and seal or tinfoil(careful with tin foil though) then same as above but with salt on ice and maybe some liquid nitrogen(found in pressured air dusting products)
if you are looking for a liquid to cool with system for super cheap you can
buy a couple cans of dust off(pressured air dusting products)
some coil pipe
a metal container
water pump found in medium size fountain
wrap coil pipe around the metal container and connect to both ends of the coil to the water pump.
disconnect topside of coil and spray the liquid nitrogen from the dusting cans(hold upside down and spray)
fill till 100% full
force most air out
turn pump on
good to go!
may need to refrigerate cooling system in back of fridge after a lot of uses
BE VERY CAREFULL"
s j replied: "Heres a nice inexpensive kit:
Heres the one I would suggest thou.
Basically a custom kit with the parts picked out for you and the best kit you can buy for anything close to its price.
Radbox is nice. Same pump I used with my water setups. Hooked it up to one of the pots on my fan controller that runs 7-12 volts.
Waters a pain. Needs periodic maintenance and I don't miss it one bit. Don't need it with the new 45nm Intel Core 2 Duos. I run my E8500 at 3.8(9.5X400==1600FSB) 24/7 and over 4 when benchmarking on exotic air. Don't have to worry about a leak, my pump dying and frying my cpu or gpus, topping off the reservoir, as water actually evaporates thru the neoprene tubing. If you wanna go cheapo you may want to pass on water. Some cheapo water kits don't cool as well as high-end air, are prone to leaks that can destroy a video card or motherboard real quick and have unreliable pumps that can cost you a cpu and gpu(s)(if you cool the card(s) too) if they fail. Here's the best in the biz if you wanna design your own water rig.
They have some vids you may find interesting."
ljason8eg replied: "Well what's "overboard" to you? Cause a good liquid cooling system that will outperform air cooling is about $250 at the least.
If you don't want to spend that much, you're better off with air cooling." what is a good liquid cooling system for my computer? I have 3 nvidia 8800 Ultra video cards and an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 that get extremely hot. and i need liquid cooling to keep them cool. what are some of the best ones? ~ღHoneyBearღ~ replied: "Ice and water seem to work well:) why dont you try them, just dump em right down the front!

Any ideas? Stainless Steel replied: "Thermaltake and CoolerMaster make some reliable and heat effective water cooling units.
Personally I prefer air cooling. I am using an Antec 1200 that provides a case with all fans in place.
Steel" Where is the best place to find powerful and efficient liquid cooling systems for my PC? I am looking for a liquid cooling system that has a neat display that takes up two 5.25 front slots but more importantly, is efficient, powerful, and has the capability of not only cooling my CPU, but also the graphics card and possibly my RAM?
I am not looking for a website, but more specifically a brand name and model. John H replied: "www.tigerdirect.com"
atkjoker replied: "I 100% agree Tigerdirect.com"

Look at Peltier cooler. No liquid, yet active cooling."
Pete replied: "Avoid peltiers, they work for a cooling solution, but if one were to ever fail you would be in deep trouble really quick, unless it is a peltier and water cooling ! I would stick with liquid cooling, it is safer in my opinion.
I've got all danger den products installed in my 2 machines. They make good water blocks and radiators. They had good customer service when I needed assistance 7 years ago. They helped me with questions and enjoyed pictures that I sent them after I got it set up.
A big plus with them is that if you have a custom idea or design you can send it to them and they have the capacity to do it, but I'm sure it will come at a steep cost!
For the most part I think they are big enough to know what they are doing, yet small enough to care about their customers on a more personal level.
They did cost a bit more than the rest of them though.
Check them out at:
At the time I wrote this their website was down, but I saw that they had some new products being reviewed for 2007 so they are still an operating business.
You can see some of their waterblocks over at ,but I know they have more than just water blocks nowadays. I've seen full kits with clear cases to mount your mobo, hdds, etc. and have all the water cooling components as well.
Trying to fit a cooling system in your two 5.25" bays that cools your entire PC might be a very difficult if not impossible task. I say this because heat rises, its physics, so you want air flow to go from front to back and top to bottom because most fan locations on the front of the PC case are on the lower end and the ones on back are usually higher. So, if the water cooling is located in one spot in your 2 available bays then you're going to want to blow the heat out of your PC making that an exhaust fan, but that would disturb air flow. It would be better to get a radiator placed in the back of the PC on the exaust fans.
Another problem with having the the system located in your 5.25 bays is that air rises so, unless you have a reservior for the air to go, or you burp the tank system somehow you might end up with a bit of air constantly circulating in your cooling system, which disturbs cooling capacity, makes noise, and might damage the pump if it makes it get air locked.
The last thing I can think of is that the pump, last I saw, that is necessary to cool an entire PC doesn't fit very snugly in tight spaces, unless you get some really good tygon tubing or lots of fittings to change the direction of fluids.
I highly recommend "Tygon" brand of plastic tubing. It is very flexible compared to other brands of tubing. I don't know where to find it in local stores, but I know that chemistry, research, and medical labs use "Tygon" tubing more than any other brand.
I have never bough any other brand of water cooling equipment, but I did do my research for who to buy from at a few places. One of them was
Here might be some other places to get a feel for what is out there and how they perform.
Anyway, drop dangerden a question to see if they have an entire cooling system that suits your needs. Otherwise there is this option that has the pump, radiator(s), and control unit in one location...I'm pretty sure you need to buy water blocks separate.
Ok, I'm going to eat my words...I just saw exactly what you are looking for when I was hunting for an example of the product just above....Here is what you want...http://www.xoxide.com/koolance-rp-1000sl.html or
Do some reviews of those products and see if they are any good for your needs." |
